Coming into Form?

The WWC ride in Greenvul is Thursday evening. It leaves from the bike shop downtown, has a nice neutral roll-out into the country for a half an hour and then becomes a slugfest for about an hour. Last night was the first time this year I felt a hint of form coming on. I was able to push pretty hard and didn't end the ride feeling shattered. Maybe all those miles I've been putting in over this summer are starting to pay off. Or maybe it was just some euphoria of surviving the ride without going down. There was some serious carnage during last week's ride. An unusually large group of 10 or so was still together towards the end. As I was taking my turn at the front a guy touched my wheel and took down almost everyone behind me. Only the guy who had just pulled off and me escaped the wreck. No serious injuries but lots of road rash, one guy's sweet new Kestrel tri frame was snapped in half, someone else's Zipp wheel was destroyed. It wasn't pretty, but I guess that's bike riding.

Two weeks until my favorite race, the Green Mountain Stage Race (http://www.gmsr.info/). Then I've got a full 6 weeks until the cross season opens Oct. 22 down here. I can't wait to get my new Van Dessel cross bike and start breaking it in.

Why are you driving 2 hours to do a century? I am in asheville today and I did not realize how close greenville is. I rode with someone today who was from greenville. He said it is only 45 min to Dupont State Park. I rode for 4 hour and only got in 30 miles of the 100 mile state park. The guy I rode with said he rides road bikes on the Blue Ridge Park several times a year. Again less than an hour. You are an hour from cycling meca. Call me. Check out the MTBR.com north carolina forum.
